Hayfever and Incontinence
Controlling Leaks Associated with Coughing and Sneezing
With spring come allergies and coughing or sneezing. Those suffering from incontinence know sneezing can lead to bladder leaks or gushes, and along with a cough, a laugh, or exercise, this can prove worrisome to those with incontinence. In the last 25 years, allergic conditions - including hay fever, asthma and eczema - have doubled, making spring a difficult time for some.
Leakage associated with hay fever is called stress urinary incontinence, a term that also describes the urine leakage that happens in those who can lose control of their bladder when sudden pressure is exerted on your pelvic floor, like a sneeze! The (Pelvic Floor Muscles) PFMs are an internal muscular hammock or trampoline of muscles stretching between each hip bone and from the pubic bone at the front to the coccyx (tailbone) at the back. These muscles are important for good bladder and bowel control.

Take Your Hay Fever Medicine
Those suffering from allergies know that even a little goes a long way. Depending on the degree of your allergies you may need something as simple as an over the counter remedy or you may need to ask your doctor about the best solution for you.
You can get on top of the sneezing and irritation of hay fever – and any pelvic floor (bladder or bowel) weakness that this might cause. But it’s always good to have a backup. Urine leaks can happen any time and its best to be prepared with something as simple as a TENA Serenity Very Light Liner or our Moderate Thin Pad.
